After Samia visited Indonesia, are Tanzanians prepared to reform the energy sector?

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan and the President of the Republic of Indonesia Hon. Joko Widodo this week witnessed the handing over of 4 Memorandums of Understanding and 1 letter of intent between the two countries aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations.

President Samia speaking to journalists during his National visit to the Indonesia country said that the agreement will strengthen 60 years of diplomatic and economic relations between two countries.

Among the issues discussed by the leaders is how to strengthen trade and investment relations where Tanzania is ready to host the first meeting of the Cooperation Agreement commission.

The leaders also discussed how to develop cooperation in investment in the oil and gas sector while the Indonesian company Pertamina, which is one of the investors in the oil and gas sector in Tanzania, increased its stake in Mnazi Bay, Mtwara.

In addition to building capacity for TPDC employees, Indonesia is also interested in its ESSA company investing in agriculture, especially fertilizers and Medco Energy on the energy side.

In terms of the pharmaceutical sector, the priority is for Indonesia to sell drugs to Tanzania, where the priority will be in the sale and distribution of drugs to treat cancer.

The other 3 agreements that President Samia has witnessed include the Blue Economy, the cooperation of the agricultural sector, mining, trade diplomacy and higher education.

Under the agreement, Tanzanians are expected to use the opportunities available to collaborate with investors from Indonesia in the implementation of projects that are expected to start and are ongoing

In addition, the agreement provides an opportunity for young Tanzanians to study in Indonesia and at the same time Indonesian citizens to come and get an education in Tanzania, especially in the field of Swahili language which is in the market of education and the world economy.

What is the point? Are Tanzanians planning to use these opportunities properly? What? TPDC will make more reforms in ensuring that oil and gas services become cheaper for Tanzanians, including ensuring that gas is distributed throughout the country and lower prices?

This is the argument of the majority to measure the effectiveness of the visits of the Honorable President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan abroad where she influences the growth of economic diplomacy.
