18 people are believed to have been killed in the Gaza Strip in an attack carried out by Israeli military forces at the United Nations' al-Jaouni school in central Gaza.

According to Al Jazeera news agency, six of those killed in the attack were employees of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), including an assistant of the shelter.

The agency stated that it is the fifth time that the school has been attacked and  this is the highest number of deaths among its staff in a single incident since the war began 11 months ago.

Witnesses say "women and children were blown to pieces in the attack”

However, the Israeli military said it was targeting Hamas fighters Due to Hamas fighters hiding in school buildings.

Meanwhile, the Hamas group told mediators it is ready to implement the ceasefire proposal put forth by the U.S. and supported by the United Nations without any new conditions from either side.
